Trenitalia vs Italo: which high-speed train to choose
Italy is one of the few countries with two competing high-speed operators on the same tracks: Trenitalia (with its Frecciarossa trains) and Italo. Both are fast, modern and comfortable - here's how they compare.
Routes
Trenitalia has the wider network, including many regional and Intercity links. Italo focuses on the busiest high-speed corridors such as Rome-Milan and Rome-Naples. On the main lines, both compete directly.
Classes
Trenitalia Frecciarossa offers Standard, Premium, Business and Executive. Italo offers Smart, Comfort, Prima and Club Executive. The top tiers add wider seats, quiet areas and dedicated service.
Which is better?
It depends on the specific train and time you need. The smart move is to compare both for your trip - and if your preferred train is sold out, set a seat alert so you don't have to keep checking.
Whatever you choose, remember Treni Alert is independent and doesn't sell tickets: we just tell you when a seat opens, on either operator.
